Woman, 55, held in mother's disappearance
A 55-year old woman, Nadja B., from Rijnsaterwoude has been apprehended by the police suspected in the disappearance of her 80-year old mother, Margerethe. Police suspect that the mother is no longer alive, the Algemeen Dagblad reports. Both mother and daughter disappeared without a trace from Rijnsaterwoude, Zuid Holland, on May 13. A search action was initiated, but the trail of the women went cold until Nadja B. was arrested on Sunday in a home in Velsen, Noord Holland. Police have been able to trace Nadja B. to Poland and Germany, but whether her mother joined her there is not clear. Police are still actively trying to determine exactly where the mother and daughter had spent their time over the last few weeks. The family's neighbors are more forthcoming with theories on Margerethe's lot. One neighbor says that the old woman must no longer be alive. "If Nadja was found without her mother, then you can bet on that", Yvonne says. "I know that Margerethe really wanted to do a trip around the world, despite her age and condition. I think that the daughter was fulfilling her mother's last wish. Not that she murdered her."
Nadja B. took her mother out of a care home last year, wanting instead to take care of her mother herself. Her mother's condition worsened over time. Then, they left suddenly in the middle of the night, leaving Nadja's 16-year old daughter behind. The girl later found shelter with friends. A neighbor says that Nadja is delusional and needs psychological help. There are also rumors of her connection to the underworld. Since her arrest Nadja has been placed in custody and may not communicate with the outside world. Her car has also been discovered and examined. Nadja B. is set to appear before the court, when a public prosecutor will update a judge on the investigation's progress. Authorities say they are concerned that Margerethe is dead, due to her diminished state before she and Nadja went missing.
