V&D to exit Amsterdam Kalvertoren
V&D is departing from the Kalvertoren shopping center, from where they sell stationary and greeting cards. The struggling department store, which invariably denies wanting to close branches, has canceled the lease, according to owner Kroonenberg.
"They have already cancelled", says Lesley Bamberger of the Kroonenberg Group, recently the owner of Kalvertoren. But they still have a contract for two years. We will definitely keep them to it." There haven't been a discussion between V&D and the Kroonbergen Group yet. "A deal is a deal. The leases are clear and we will discuss it with V&D in line with that."
According to V&D the lease of the Kalvertoren was already cancelled by the previous owner of the mall when it was extended in 2013. "The focus is on the main premises of V&D in Kalverstraat, which we are going to renew this year", says a spokesperson. "This innovation is in line with current strategy." According to the spokesperson, the closure of the space in the Kalvertoren will not lead to job losses.
