Belgian police shootout after ATM theft in Breda

A manhunt is underway in Oud-Turnhout in Belgium. The police are looking for heavily armed criminals who committed an ATM bombing on an ING Bank in the Moerwijk shopping center in Breda, Omroep Brabant reports. It is not clear whether the perpetrators managed to get away with any money. The Belgian police confirmed that the perpetrators fled to Belgium after the bombing and fired shots at the police with a Kalashnikov during there flight. They would not give the newspaper any further details. Belgian media reports that there are two perpetrators. The perpetrators blew the ATM from the wall using explosives. They tried to enter the building through the glass doors, causing a lot of damage to the doors. After the bombing, the perpetrators fled in a dark colored Audi A6 towards Antwerp. The Dutch police gave chase, getting help from Belgian officers after the perpetrators crossed the border. There seems to have been a shootout on the Antwerp ring near the Sportpaleis, with the perpetrators firing at the police with a Kalashnikov. According to the newspaper, the perpetrators then fled via the E34 towards Eindhoven. They drove over spike srip at the Oud-Turnhout exit. At one point one of the perpetrators got out of the car and started firing at the police again, this time hitting a police car. Officers returned fire, but could not prevent the perpetrators fleeing into the woods on foot. The police are currently searching the wooded area, using sniffer dogs and a helicopter. The E34 motorway has been closed off as a precaution. The police advised residents of the area to stay indoors and keep their windows and doors locked.
