Dutch buying more groceries online

Online grocery shopping in the Netherlands is booming. Dutch people spend 450 million euros on online grocery shopping last year - a 55 percent increase compared to 2013. This is according to figures from data provider Syndy, RTL Nieuws reports. The report compared the "e-grocery" markets in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France to each other and found that the Netherlands has one of the fastest growing markets for online convenience stores in Europe. The grocery market in the Netherlands is wort 33.8 billion euros and is dominated by Albert Heijn and Jumbo. Albert Heijn is also the biggest market on the web, accounting for 53 percent of the share. Competition comes from supermarkets Jumbo and Deen. Remarkably, 70 percent of Dutch people indicated that they sometimes buy things online, but only 15 percent of them do grocery shopping on the internet. According to the study, the growth of online grocery shopping is especially inhibited by high fees, from AH.nl in particular.
