Amsterdam launches illegal hotel hotline
The municipality of Amsterdam launched a hotline on Thursday where residents can report complaints of illegal hotels in the city. Enforcers will respond directly to complaints about serious disturbances.
This hotline is in its testing phase for the time being. It is available on the municipal phone number 14020 for the next six weeks from Thursday to Sunday between 2:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
The number of disturbances and nuisances in Amsterdam is known to peak in the summer season, which is why the hotline has been opened. "In the summer we often see an increase in the number of tourists and nuisance complaints in the city." responsible alderman Laurens Ivens told NU. "A regular enforcement program takes time and after a report it is sometimes difficult to actually prove the illegal lease."
The alderman also said that many complaints involve apartments and houses in the city that have been rented out through initiatives like Airbnb.
