MH17: Missile launch site not determined

While the Dutch Safety Board's final report on the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disaster with Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 revealed many new details, the location from where the fatal missile was fired has not been determined. Regarding the location of the firing, Safety Board chairman Tjibbe Joustra could not say anything more than that it happened "from within an area of 320 square kilometers from the east of the Ukraine". Joustra called for more forensic investigative work to determine the launch site, but said it falls outside of the scope of the Dutch Safety Board’s mandate. Joustra revealed that the Malaysian Airlines plane was shot down by a 9N314M warhead fired by a BUK-missile system. It hit the plane above the left side of the cockpit, instantly killing three crew members. All other people on board lost consciousness almost immediately and died within minutes. There is no chance that they felt anything. A fuller report on the Safety Board's presentation can be seen here.
