Disabled man crowdfunds his own robotic exoskeleton suit

Paraplegic patient Ruben de Sain from Nijmegen managed to raise the 85 thousand euros necessary to buy his own robotic exoskeleton through crowdfunding, Omroep Gelderland reports. The exoskeleton enables him to walk. He was allowed to use such an exoskeleton for a few weeks in a test for the Sint Maartens Clinic, and after that he could not imagine being stuck in a wheelchair again. De Sain hopes that his suit will arrive in early January. He is ecstatic by how quickly the money was raised. "They're coming to me with three men to measure the suit. A brand new one; the suit I practiced in has already been returned", he said to the broadcaster According to De Sain, this will probably not be a once of purchase - he expects the suit will become worn out eventually with continuous use - but he hopes that insurers will eventually reimburse him for the suit, so that the next one does not have to be purchased through crowdfunding.
