Woman hurt in Amsterdam shooting part of "problem family": report
The woman injured in a shooting on Oude IJsselstraat in Amsterdam on Thursday morning, is part of a "problem family", neighbors told Het Parool. Several of them repeatedly complained about the family to the landlord and Mayor Eberhard van der Laan, the newspaper reports.
The victim is the daughter in a family who also seemed to be the target of a previous attack - last month a hand grenade exploded in front of their home, damaging several parked cars but not injuring anyone.
The neighbors are now once again calling for intervention to prevent more violence.
According to the newspaper, the family consists of grand parents, several sons, the daughter and their young children. That the family stood in the center of several disturbances over the past years is not only evident from neighbors' complaints, but also from police files. The sons in particular are regularly in contact with the police.
Mayor Van der Laan expressed his concerns about the shooting and previous hand grenade incident during a meeting of the General Affairs Committee on Thursday. "The police then put ten detectives on the case. I can not say much about it, except that this morning's shooting brought new information", he said, adding that the shooting seemed to be directed at the woman. "There are three children at risk. This has our attention."
