Nervous man leads Rotterdam police to drugs, weapon bust
The Rotterdam police discovered about a kilograms of what they believe is cocaine, a firearm and 100 thousand euros in cash after they decided to pull over and search a taxi based on one of the passenger's remarkably nervous behavior.
The officers noticed the taxi, carrying five people including the driver, at around 9:30 p.m. on Maashaven Oostzijde on Tuesday night. The passengers got very nervous when the noticed the police, so the officers decided to pull the taxi over on Stieltjesstraat.
While talking to the passenger on the front passenger seat, the officer noticed that he got more and more nervous. The officer spotted a bag and inside found something packed in a common packaging for drugs. He indicated that all passengers were under arrest for further investigation.
The three men n the back of the taxi jumped out and took off towards the Entrepot building. Backup was called in.
The passenger in the front seat, a 25-year-old Albanan, was arrested on the spot and the car was searched thoroughly. In addition to the package believed to contain cocaine, the police also found a bag with 70 thousand euros in 100 euro banknotes and a firearm.
While searching the area, a witness old the police that he saw three running men throwing something into the water near the Pincoffs building. There the police did indeed find a floting bag, containing another 30 thousand euros in 100 euro notes.
The 25-year-old man is in custody. The other three suspects are still at large.
