Girl arrested for trying to incite mass shootings in Lelystad schools

An underage girl from Lelystad was arrested on Wednesday for spreading messages on social media in which she made threats towards schools in Lelystad. Messages have been circulating since last Monday evening in which people are called to shoot at various schools in Lelystad. The police are currently in talks with her, the police said in a statement.

Police took the messages very seriously as soon as they saw them and put all their energy into tracing the source. This led them to the girl. Various punishments are possible for an offense like this. They include a fine, community service, or even a jail sentence.

Other schools have also been the target of threats recently. The latest was a threat on a school in IJsselstein, Utrecht, which was telling people "not to go to school" this Friday. Similar threats also happened in Den Bosch and Almere. High schools in Breda were the target on Sunday night, which led to the arrest of a girl from Belgium.

Police are taking into account that these incidents could have been the result of copycat behavior. Police are taking into account that these incidents could have been the result of copycat behavior. The threats have often been shared via social media platforms TikTok and Snapchat.
